Unique solid wood furniture

Based in Totara Flat on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand, the Naturally Native Furniture Co salvages and recovers logs that have fallen to mother nature - they include Rimu, Totara, Beech, Matai and Macrocarpa. The old logs are skilfully milled into flitches and timber, it is then dried, then hand-crafted into the quality indoor and outdoor furniture displayed on this website.

How we make our products
400 year old rimu log

Our goal in salvaging the timber is to make the smallest possible impact on the enviroment. We recover logs, often many decades old, that have fallen naturally in river beds after storms or lying on the forest floor.

The logs are recovered by various means, or even milled on site with minimal damage to surrounding areas. Because of their age, the logs are very dense and are dried for several years after milling. This photo shows a salvaged rimu log approximately 400 years old which had been lying on the ground for 32 years after sawmillers had left the area. Read more details . . .
